Bamboo Museum 竹の資料館

The Bamboo Museum is a Japanese-style building that displays Kyoto’s well-known bamboo. Numerous exhibits within the museum explain the physiology and ecology of bamboo and traditional bamboo products from Kyoto. Is designated as one of the museums in Kyoto City.

The garden has over 110 living kinds of bamboo from across Japan and is a great place to see the ecology of bamboo while forest bathing in a green environment.

The ecological garden is designed as a strolling Japanese-style garden. Bamboo and bamboo grass that are planted are labeled with the name of the plant so by the end of your time here you might even be able to identify the different varieties that you might see around town.

The expansive garden has 350 stone Buddhas, or Jizo, that were once used by the powerful warlord Nobunaga Oda to build the stone walls of the old Nijo Castle.

Whether you might be interested in learning about bamboo academically or just spending time soaking in the energy of these powerful plants, this museum is a wonderful place to spend quiet time here in Kyoto.
